Announcing Petal, a First-of-its-Kind Transoceanic Subsea Cable
Meta is deploying Petal, a new transoceanic subsea cable connecting France and the US. The project aims to significantly increase intercontinental data capacity using multi-core fiber technology.

The details
Petal is being built with partners NEC and Sumitomo Electric Industries. French telecommunications company Orange is supporting the landing on France's Atlantic coast. Meta has previously invested in more than 20 subsea cable projects.
What's next
The cable is expected to enter service in 2029.
