Introducing Adaptive Intelligence: undermining the economics of every bot attack
Cloudflare has launched Adaptive Intelligence, a non-deterministic bot detection engine designed to make automated attacks too costly and slow to be worthwhile.
Why it matters
By removing the static nature of traditional defenses, this helps businesses prevent sophisticated bot attacks that typically bypass standard rule-based security.
The details
The system implements a cycle of observation, training, deployment, and validation. It uses 'disposable rules' that are deployed and retired at random intervals to confuse attackers and prevents errors by running new versions in 'shadow mode' before they go live. Additionally, the engine evaluates traffic across multiple time windows to identify both sudden bursts and slow, distributed attacks.
What's next
Cloudflare will expand automatic detection generation and further integrate network, challenge, and browser signals into a single session view.
