Our Agreement With Bipartisan Attorneys General: Calling on TikTok and YouTube to Join Us in Supporting Teens
Meta has reached an agreement with 52 US state attorneys general to implement stricter safety controls for users under 18 on Facebook and Instagram.
Why it matters
Teens in participating US regions will face automatic restrictions on their social media usage, such as nighttime blocks and daily time limits. This limits the time minors spend on these platforms and gives parents more control.
The details
A default two-hour cumulative daily time limit applies across Facebook and Instagram. Night Mode blocks access from midnight to 6 AM. School Mode mutes push notifications between 8 AM and 3 PM.
What's next
The protections will automatically apply to under-18s in participating regions pending judicial approval.
